The combined Camino Portugués Litoral and Central Route is a fantastic way to experience the diversity of northern Portugal. Starting from Porto, the Litoral Way follows the coast closely along scenic boardwalks, sandy beaches, and fishing villages, creating a relaxed and refreshing beginning to the pilgrimage.
Around Caminha, many walkers choose to turn inland to Valença to join the Central Route. The trail passes through rolling countryside, historic towns, and traditional Portuguese villages on the way to Santiago. This combination offers the perfect balance of seaside beauty and cultural depth, capturing the essence of both coastal serenity and the classic Camino spirit.
To walk a shorter version of this route Viana do Castelo is a good starting point.
