The Camino Portugués Coastal Route follows the stunning Atlantic shoreline from Porto, passing through picturesque seaside towns, golden beaches, and fishing villages before joining the inland paths toward Santiago. It’s a more peaceful and refreshing alternative to the busier central route, with plenty of sea views and ocean breezes to accompany your walk. Pilgrims can also enrich this journey by combining it with the Spiritual Variant (Variante Espiritual) near Pontevedra — a scenic and reflective extension through ancient monasteries and along serene estuaries, culminating in a memorable boat trip that retraces the legendary final voyage of Saint James’ body to Santiago de Compostela.
